What is a "selfie" ?
What we think of as a "selfie" is a self-potrait. Artists often create them to study and practice art techniques and experiment with various mediums. With advancements in technology (digital cameras and camera phones) as well as the explosion of social media (Facebook. Instagram. etc.) the self portrait has exploded in popularity. The new trendy culture word for a very traditional subject matter like self portrait is now "selfie".
A selfie is often casual and usually taken at arm's length (which gives rise to its other common name, PAL- Portrait at Arm's Length).
Selfie Assignment
ART- Students will draw how they think they look in their template, and add a background. Next they will design and cut out their phone. Finally they will hashtag their name on the phone, so we know exactly who the artist is.
WRITING- Students will use a writing prompt to tell about their goals for 2015. Students are expected to show DETAILS in their writing.
Selfies will be displayed in the hall when they are complete.
Thank you Art with Jenny K!
I am so proud of the creativity and hard work that went into the #selfie project. Students' 2015 goals were ambitious, inspiring, and written from the heart. They made me laugh, smile, and celebrate.
